Good morning:

What happens at Dallas City Hall can be described a lot of different ways.

Fascinating. Funny. Boring. Confusing. Maddening.

Having observed and engaged in Dallas politics for nearly two decades in a variety of roles, I firmly believe it is also very important.

That is why I started this weekly newsletter in the spring of 2023. If you live or work in Dallas, you need to know what is happening at Dallas City Hall. Decisions are made almost every day that impact your life.

This week, D Magazine named Meetings of Interest our city’s “Best News Outlet.” My reaction could also be described in a lot of different ways.

Honored. Surprised. Excited. Definitely not humbled.

I am also deeply grateful to you, my subscribers, because it would not have happened without you. Your engagement with me every week is what keeps me motivated to work through the weekends to digest hundreds of pages of government agendas and memos that are often not published until late on Fridays.

I am also grateful to Downtown Dallas, Inc. (DDI), especially President & CEO Jennifer Scripps, for supporting this newsletter and allowing me to use my genuine (and occasionally sarcastic) voice. Thanks also to DDI’s Evan Sheets and Nikia Summerlin for helping monitor and make sense of hours of government meetings every week. And, of course, thank you to the D Magazine team for honoring us.

My only ask is that you keep reading and keep writing me. And please encourage your friends and colleagues to sign up for the newsletter via the button below.

We will return to our regular weekly programming on Sunday, August 4.

Best,

Scott Goldstein
